I’ve been an advocate of dancing since that first night in Burnsville, and I’m hoping this post will encourage you to get out on the dance floor yourself. There are also young folks who are working to bring square dancing back to into communities. There are numerous workshops and classes offered throughout the mountains to teach people to dance and to call. Today, it is safe to say that square dancing is in a revival of sorts. They served as social gatherings where news could be swapped, courtships could form, and musicians could test their chops. Dances had once been centerpieces of mountain society.
